Mental Health Hospitalization

The following information is designed to help U-M students who have been hospitalized for mental health reasons.  Here you will find information about what to expect while in the hospital and tips and tools to help make a successful transition out of the hospital and back into the classroom. This section was adapted with permission from the U-M Mental Health Workgroup's "A Student's Guide to Mental Health Hospitalization at the University of Michigan."

Overview of Mental Health Hospitalization
What to expect if you are hospitalized for mental health reasons, including information on common inpatient activities, determining length of stay, and concerns about confidentiality.

Plan for Staying Healthy Outside the Hospital
Information and resources for developing a plan to stay healthy once you are discharged from the hospital, such as locating an ongoing treatment provider and utilizing self-care strategies.

My Back-to-School Plan
It is normal to feel overwhelmed when you are discharged from the hospital, but there are things you can do to make it easier to return to your regular routine and activities.
